Economic Growth

The Regional Trade Facilitation and Border Management Project reduced trade costs by optimizing border processes and improving control systems. It supported the implementation of the WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement and the Central American Trade Facilitation Strategy, working with national institutions and the private sector in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras. The project upgraded IT systems, harmonized border controls, and simplified trade processes, creating a more efficient, competitive trade environment and helping businesses access international markets.

Optimizing Border Processes: Streamlining customs procedures and border control systems to reduce trade costs and time, enhancing the efficiency of regional trade.

Supporting WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement (TFA): Assisting countries in implementing key elements of the TFA to improve trade facilitation and regulatory frameworks.

Promoting Authorized Economic Operators (AEO): Helping businesses in Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador become AEOs, granting them easier access to international markets.

Harmonizing Border Controls: Providing technical assistance and training to border management to align border controls and promote coordinated inspections across the region.
